The surprising wines of Alentejo
Enjoy a 5 nights’ exploration in the hinterland of Portugal’s beautiful Alentejo region, which is becoming increasingly recognised for its excellent wines.
Our base is Evora, a picturesque walled town, famous for its Roman temple and the medieval palaces built for the court of the King of Portugal. Spring is the perfect time to enjoy exploring the surrounding wine areas; a sparsely populated, picturesque landscape of golden undulating hills, cork forests and vineyards.
During the trip we focus on the celebrated reds of the region such as Alfrocheiro, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez and Trincadeira, in addition to Touriga Nacional and Syrah, which is particularly successful here. At the same time, the whites will also surprise, based on varieties such as Antao Vaz, Arinto and Fernao Pires.
The tour includes visits to notable new and classic wineries.
